How To Easily Remove A Stump

Are you struck with a bothersome reminder of the tree that once stood there? It may be easier than you think to remove those stubborn stumps! Try a surprisingly easy and simple solution—one that uses a common bath product—to rid your yard of your troublesome tree remains.

Removing a tree from your yard can be a tricky and expensive process, in some cases it could cost hundreds to hire a professional to safely do the job. But what can be even more frustrating than spending the money, time, and effort to have the tree removed is winding up stuck with a stubborn stump. In some cases, when a vast root system from the tree is present, leafy shoots can continue to shoot up and the stump will continue to grow rather than decompose long after the tree is cut down.

Fortunately for the frustrated homeowner, there’s a favorite bath-time essential that doubles as an easy stump removal solution: Epsom salt. With a few items you probably already have in the garage, and a little patience, you can easily and naturally remove the eyesore from your yard.

The first thing you'll need to do is use a power drill to drill holes that are at least a quarter of an inch wide, a few inches from the outside of the stump. Be sure to drill as deeply into the stump as your drill bit will allow, placing the holes about an inch apart. Once you've drilled as many holes into the stump as you can, fill them with Epsom salt and then add enough water to saturate the minerals without causing the mixture to spill over.

Finally, sprinkle some more Epsom salt around the entire base of the stump, and finish up by covering the stump with a tarp to prevent rainwater from washing any of the mixture out of the holes. Although depending on the size of the stump, it could take up to a month or more in some cases, the solution should eventually cut off the moisture supply to the roots, allowing you to pry up the tree stump and get rid of the nuisance for good.
